Description:
Rushton agricultural tractor on cast front and steel rear wheels, by AEC at Walthamstow., c. 1930. Engine: 27 hp, 4-cylinder side valve petrol/paraffin. The Rushton tractor was built as competition to the Fordson. As with other British competitors to Ford, the Rushton was well made but expensive, the Fordson of the day gave better value for money. The Rushton was one of the tractors Ferguson considered for a version of his hydraulic system, and rear castings were apparently altered to accommodate it. The deal fell through leaving Ferguson to decide to strike out on his own with the 'Black Tractor'
